Verification of Air Taxi Service for Social Implementation of eVTOL in Mie Prefecture

We,Aero Asahi Corporation (Headquarters: Tokyo, Toshinori Ogure, CEO) participated in a public offering project of Mie Prefecture in fiscal year 2021 to verify Air Taxi Service for Social Implementation of eVTOL(*1) with Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President Yuji Akasaka of Representative Director; hereinafter "JAL").

In this demonstration, we operated a helicopter in the route that connects sightseeing spots in Mie Prefecture, mainly Chubu Centrair International Airport, among the routes that we had organized and studied in advance, and local government and company officials involved in the Demonstration as well as JAL Travel Reporters(*2) were invited to board the helicopter to gather opinions on the appropriateness and issues of the service and operations. We also flew a circular sightseeing route in anticipation of using eVTOL not only as a means of transportation but also as a sightseeing activity.

(*1) eVTOL: electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing aircraft: A small aircraft that can take off and land vertically by rotating multiple rotors with an electric motor. It attracts attention as a means of next-generation transporting that fuses drone and electric vehicle technologies.

① Chubu Centrair International Airport - Suzuka Circuit (approx. 25 km)
② Suzuka Circuit - Amanem (approx. 64 km)
③ Amanem - via Shima Spain Village - Amanem (about 64 km)
④ Amanem - Chubu Centrair International Airport (approx. 62 km)
Helicopter: Sikorsky 76D (8 passengers)

Validated Services:     
*Airport connection: For domestic and foreign tourists visiting Mie Prefecture by air, a travel service connecting the airport and major sightseeing spots (Flight Route①④)
*Travel within the prefecture: A travel service for tourists visiting the prefecture that connects major sightseeing spots around Toba, the base of Ise-Shima sightseeing (Flight Route②)

*Circular Sightseeing: A service for hotel guests in the Shima area to enjoy a scenic flight around the area where they are staying while traveling to nearby sightseeing spots (Flight Route③)

In the future, we will use the results of this demonstration to solve regional issues related to transportation, daily life, and disaster prevention. We will also work to create and revitalize further attractions for Mie Prefecture by improving access and creating new activities.
Aiming for commercialization in eVTOL in fiscal year 2025, as an aviation professional, we will contribute to the creation of a prosperous and sustainable society by making use of the latest technology called eVTOL and safe and secure operations know-how accumulated in the past through air transport.
