Echo-sounder
Multi-beam echo-sounder uses a transmission and reception arrays in a configuration known as the“Mills Cross”to measure water depth. This technology transmits fan-shaped sound waves to the left and right of the survey vessel, and receives with beam formed to the front and rear of the vessel, allowing it to acquire numerous depth values simultaneously. As the vessel moves forward, multi-beam echo-sounder can measure sea-bottom topography effectively. The key feature is the ability to obtain more than 256 to 1024 depth measurement points at once, making it possible to represent not only the sea-bottom topography but also structures and features in the sea.
The acquired multibeam echo sounding data is used in a wide range of fields, including nautical chart production, port construction management, dam sedimentation surveys, and investigations for the installation of submarine cables and pipelines. The equipment we own is as follows.
SeaBat T-50 (Teledyne RESON Inc.)
This multi-beam echo-sounder can measure 512 water depths with a resolution of 0.5° × 1° to capture the sea-bottom topography. It can collect data with a maximum swath width of 160°, and the point density can be adjusted by changing the swath width.
Sonic2024 (R2SONIC Inc.)
This is the most widely used multi-beam echo-sounder in Japan and offers functionality equivalent to the SeaBat T-50. The number of beams can be set between 256 and 1,024, with a maximum swath width of 160°. It can distribute data at equal angular or equal distance intervals.
PicoCAT-130 (Picotech Ltd.)
This is a compact depth sounder that can be mounted on Seafloor Inc.'s unmanned boat and operated remotely, with the capability to monitor data acquisition status. It is suitable for use in shallow areas that are inaccessible to manned boats. The system features beamwidth of 1.4° × 1.4° and 256 acoustic beams.
